Letter from our President
May 2008
n Target – Some words from your President
Kudos to our Secretary Brad Denton! The City of Rancho Palos Verdes scheduled a Public Use Master Plan (PUMP) meeting as part it its City Council meeting, at which the approval of trails though Abalone Cove was on the agenda. The road we commonly use is called the Bow and Arrow Trail, and it’s slated for pedestrian use only. Other possible uses could have included hiking, cycling, or equestrian. So our presence or representation wasn’t really necessary. What Brad did do, however--with Carol Hitchcock and myself flanking him for moral support--was to present the City Council with an awesome plaque in appreciation of 52 years on site, and to explain how our club functions and that we’re in compliance with CBH, NFAA, City ordinances, our insurance provider, etc. Collectively, we presented a fine public image, and the Council was grateful for our acknowledgement. The significance of this event is that at the next PUMP meeting, the use of the area will be brought up, and that’s where SBAC fits in. For this, we were asked is we would make a presentation. Thanks again to Brad, we’ll be very prepared, and hopefully the timely plaque will put us in sufficient good graces that will last in Council Members’ memories at least till the next meeting.
None of those who are actively involved in our club can stress enough the importance of volunteerism. We can pay for road work, gardening, and other items, but for fewer than a dozen people out of over 200 to help out when and where needed—that’s just not enough to run as smoothly as we should. Not that long ago, this club nearly folded because not enough members stepped forward to be on the Board; are we approaching that level of apathy again? WE’RE ALL VERY BUSY! ALL of us! That said, it takes more than “60 bucks a family” to make this thing work. So please step forward and do what you can, whether it’s joining a work party or joining the Board. This club asks so little financially that giving some of your time should be… a given.
Keep seein’ sp¤ts,
Keep seein' sp ts,
